B. Cues from the late 1800s to the early 1900s:

1. Probably Hiolle with mother-of-pearl inlays dating from the 1880s. Its '4-point' palissandre and maple butt is bevelled and adorned with two opposite triangular plates, one in mother-of-pearl and the other in wood.



The collar is only 19.0 mm in diameter and the ivory butt end

is only half covered with leather (*).

2. Signed one-piece '4-point' Hiolle with butt end similar to the previous one.




The signature located near the butt end of this Hiolle dating probably from before 1900 (**) is supposed to be the oldest one of the whole collection of this site.

 

 

3. '4-point' Hiolle, signed on one of the four light-coloured points,

with butt end similar to the one of cue 6 and monogram.

4. Signed '4-point' Hiolle, inlaid with mother-of-pearl

and finely carved.

made of Indian rosewood and adorned with various inlays, one of them being criss-cross. No. 281 is also carved and the other two are signed by their owners.

8. Signed '2-piece' Hénin Aîné. It weighs 580 g and is 142 cm long. Its '4-point' palissandre and maple butt is bevelled and adorned with two opposite triangular plates, one in mother-of-pearl and the other in wood. The butt end is made of ivory and the bumper of leather. The joint collar, also in ivory, is 20.5 mm in diameter. The maple shaft (not shown) is provided with a wood joint screw and a 13.5 mm in diameter ivory ferrule.


Hénin Aîné

The butt is hand carved.

9. '2-piece' Hénin Aîné,.signed, uncommon.

Its maple and Brazilian rosewood shaft and butt have two opposite '4-point' splices. Its bevelled butt end is adorned with two triangular plates. The first one is made of wood and the second one, bearing the initials D B, of mother-of-pearl. Some details : weight = 540 g, length = 140 cm, diameters of the butt end, the joint collar and the ferrule = 35, 20.5 and 13 mm, respectively. Leather 'Double tip'.

10. Probably Hénin Aîné '4-point' cue, carved and provided with two opposite triangular plates, one of them in mother-of-pearl bearing the initials R P.

The carving of the amaranth and maple butt delimits 5 areas differently decorated.

11. Rounded 'Vignaux' style (****) two coloured veneers spliced Brunswick cue with American decal

and shaft provided with a brass screw.

It is probably a one piece No.18 converted in Europe into a '2-piece' cue.
